Orthodontics is the area of dentistry which deals with straightening the teeth and jaw alignment, using either a fixed or removable brace. Most patients are children, though adult orthodontics has increased significantly due to advances in technology, and more adults are now having orthodontic treatment than ever, often through discreet, invisible appliance options.
Depending on the severity of the problem, treatment usually takes between 15 months and 2 years, with regular visits approximately every 8 weeks for adjustments and monitoring.
We offer various appliance types, including clear custom-made aligners and tooth-coloured fixed appliances, along with planning technology to visualise tooth movement beforehand.
Braces apply gentle pressure to the teeth. This causes the jawbone to soften, before the teeth slowly move to the predetermined position. Initial tenderness may occur at the start of treatment and after adjustments, but this will soon pass. Teeth are only removed if absolutely necessary, which occurs less frequently with modern brace designs.
