Hygienist

Professional cleaning and preventative care from our dental hygienist.

Why Oral Hygiene Matters

Oral hygiene simply means the cleanliness and health of your mouth, teeth and gums. It is vital for preventing gum disease and tooth decay as part of your overall health.

What Our Hygienist Does

By professionally removing plaque and tartar from the teeth, and instructing how this can be maintained at home to prevent future build-up, the risks from tooth decay and gum disease are reduced considerably.

Beyond cleaning, the hygienist applies preventative materials, advises on diet and home care routines, and treats gum disease. They work closely alongside the rest of the dental team.

Will It Hurt?

Treatments do not usually hurt. However, should you feel any discomfort, it is important to tell your hygienist, as they can apply numbing options.

Children and Hygiene

Children can visit the hygienist for teeth polishing, fluoride application and dental sealants on permanent molars as preventative measures. Patients receive instruction on brushing with fluoride toothpaste twice daily and using interdental cleaning tools like floss or small brushes.

All treatments are subject to a clinical assessment and may not be suitable for everyone. Please speak to the dentist to discuss what is right for you.
