Treatments
A long-lasting, fixed solution for one or more missing teeth.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root, usually made from titanium, that is placed into the jaw. A crown or bridge is then attached to replace the missing tooth, or multiple implants can secure a denture.
Patients must have healthy gums and enough jaw bone to support the implants.
The process spans several months. Initially the implant is placed into the jaw bone and left to heal over a period of 3 to 6 months. Once healed, impressions are sent to a technician who creates a custom replacement tooth, which is then fitted.
Local anaesthetic or sedation can be used during placement. Patients may experience some discomfort during healing due to stitches and the normal recovery process.
Once a dental implant has integrated into the jaw bone it can last a long time, but this depends heavily on a high standard of daily cleaning and regular reviews. Teeth attached to implants are no more difficult to clean than your own teeth, and we recommend regular hygienist visits alongside daily oral care.
All treatments are subject to a clinical assessment and may not be suitable for everyone. Please speak to the dentist to discuss what is right for you.
